I returned from Australia and the island of Reunion, south of Mauritius, in April and was soon taking part in a Spring Competition at the Norwich showground where I earned some prize money, and got good advice. After Easter in Stradbroke Church, it was a different artistic exercise for a few days, preparing four entries for the Art Exhibition. Three collages: The Royal Wedding, The Russian Choir and my wife Margaret’s birthday on Friday, 29th April, and an oil painting of a rainbow which found a buyer.

I redid my Easter arrangement for the Russian Concert at the Community Centre, and then took them to Redlingfield Church for a Service to celebrate William and Kate’s Wedding.

Mid-May to the South Suffolk Show at Hadleigh

where I was awarded a second and third, with rosettes and prize money!

The year is nearly over

December 29, 2010

The two poems that I read at a Friends of the Church Evening were by Pam Ayres, “I’m the dog that didn’t win a prize”, and Joyce Grenfell’s “Flower Arranging” which provoked much amusement.
I arranged flowers for Harvest Festival to include all the colours of the rainbow with a “Peace” flag behind, and for Remembrance [...]

How many months later!

September 9, 2010

It seems that I have been so busy arranging flowers that I have said nothing to my readers since last summer. I did indeed do arrangements for Easter, Whitsun and the World Cup (with flags) in Stradbroke Church, and at the Suffolk and Norfolk County Shows, Heveningham Hall, Sandringham Flower Show, and Bedfield Church, and [...]

On Tuesday, 26th May, i loaded my son’s truck with flowers, greenery, coloured material and more to do four arrangements for the Suffolk County Show Flower Arrangement Competition. I’m saving up an account of my adventures there for a fund raising talk later in the year, so watch out for announcements of the date.

More and more flowers!

June 15, 2009

On May 22nd I went to Redlingfield Church for two arrangements on “The Village Then and Now”. One was by the board about 19th century benefactors; the other illustrated “Neighbourhood Watch” and was yellow flowers in front of dark copper beech leaves representing the watching light shining through the darkness. The Festival raised over £1,000 [...]

More flowers

June 15, 2009

The four flower arrangements that I did at Horham were very well received, and I will be giving photos of three of them to the 95th Bomb Group Museum as a record of this year’s reunion. “Peace” was represented by a flag in rainbow colours, and the same seven for the flowers. The fourth “Beat [...]

Flowers Arranging

May 11, 2009

On Easter Monday I sought advice from a friend who is most-experienced, both as a flower-arranging competitor and as a steward and a judge on show day. She advised me to keep the arrangements simple! At Worlingworth, early in May for the Flower Festival theme of Musicals, I did Starlight Express, surrounded by pairs of [...]

More examples for Easter

May 10, 2009

At Redlingfield, there were children present, and in my sermon I remembered having come into the church earlier in the week, and found a blackbird trapped inside, and trying to escape. I left the door open, and it did. Today, Easter Sunday, there are two butterflies and a ladybird who want to reach the fresh [...]

Easter Hymns

May 9, 2009

Easter hymns are bright and cheerful, and last year I launched the forty days from Easter Sunday to Ascension Day with forty verses written for a sponsored hymn-sing. I will be adding a verse to my reports on these “days in the life of a Vicar” when Jesus was convincing his disciples that he had [...]
